| To: All Faculty From: ILTE RE: Important Oncourse Information As you are aware, Oncourse is changing. Effective for the fall 2005 semester, all courses will load in Oncourse CL (the “new Oncourse”) by default, but faculty may opt out of teaching in CL and go back to Classic. While CL will bring some nice new features and tools, not all are in place now and will not be for the fall semester. It is important to know that using CL for fall classes is not for everyone. If you rely on the following, using CL in the fall is probably not for you: · Use multiple gradebooks · Use the commenting feature of the gradebooks · Email students individually via Oncourse mail · Students email one another via Oncourse mail · Use the discussion forum heavily (and need the “mark as read” feature) · Use group spaces · Create groups in Oncourse Restrict information to groups you created in Oncourse To further help you with the decision on which version of Oncourse to use this fall click on the Oncourse CL Readiness Survey. You can make your selection of Oncourse Classic or CL on a course by course basis as noted in the instructions below. To opt out of CL for the fall semester Login to Oncourse Click on the link, “Change my classes to Oncourse Classic” (on the right side of your Profile page) Type in your IUS email address Select the classes to transfer You will receive an incident/confirmation number and email NOTE: It will take about 24 hours for your courses to revert to Classic The ILTE will offer many workshops throughout the summer, fall and spring semesters. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or problems. Please note: We (David and Katy) will not have admin access to CL courses until mid-August. This means we will be limited in the assistance we can provide to you over the phone—we’ll do our best though! |
