Article I: Membership
Section 1:
The procedure of selection
of membership will follow the following guidelines.
- New Members must be current students of
Indiana University Southeast (IUS).
- New Members must be in good standing with IUS.
- This will be verified by the Advisor.
- New Members must have attended two meetings
prior to membership being granted.
Section 2:
Membership responsibilities
shall include:
- Serve on special committees formed by the
President
- Attend a majority of meetings
- Uphold the Student Hand
Book and Code of Ethics
Section 3:
Membership shall be terminated:
- At such time as the member ceases to be a
student of IUS.
- At such time as the member falls out of good
standing with the university as described in the Student Hand Book
and Code of Ethics.
- At such time as the member violates the
Student Hand Book and Code of Ethics in a manner that requires
sanctions by Student Affairs.
Article II: Selection of Officers
Section 1:
The selection of officers
shall be done by:
A.
Open nominations for officers shall be accepted from the
membership at a regular meeting in the Fall semester no later than
October 15th.
a.
All nominations will be verified for eligibility by the Advisor.
i.
President and Vice President shall maintain GPA of 2.5 and be currently
enrolled.
ii. All
other offices shall maintain GPA of 2.0 and be currently enrolled.
B.
Elections shall take place in the fall semester one (1) week
after nominations have been accepted.
C.
Members may vote from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on the day of elections
in the form of an email.
a.
Votes shall be sent to the Advisor who shall tabulate the results
and notify the membership via email.
Section 2:
The provisions for removal of an
officer include:
- At such time as an officer ceases to be a
student, they will no longer be an officer.
- At such time as the membership feels an
officer should be replaced a 2/3 majority vote shall remove the
officer. Filling the position will follow the set guidelines of the
Constitution.
Article III: Selection of an Advisor
Section 1:
The selection of an advisor shall be
done by:
- The president shall appoint a special
committee to locate a candidate for the role as advisor.
- A majority vote shall take place at a regular
meeting to install the advisor.
Section 2:
The advisor may be removed by a
majority vote at a regular meeting.
Article IV: Committees
Section 1:
Permanent committees:
A.
Shall be reformed at the beginning of each academic year
B.
Volunteers from the membership will fill each committee
C.
The Chair of the committee will be selected by a majority vote
within the committee
D.
Permanent Committees shall include
a.
Recruitment and Retention Committee
i.
Plan ways to recruit new members and ways to retain current
member. Make recommendations to the membership to achieve these goals.
b.
Events Committee
i.
This committee is responsible for planning the events that the
GSA either hosts or sponsors. All contacts to venues, venders,
cosponsors, etc will be made through this committee.
Section 2:
Special Committees:
- Special Committees shall be appointed by the
President to manage situations that are not covered by the permanent
committees.
Article V: Rules of Order
Section 1:
This organization shall be
governed by the most current edition of “Robert’s Rules of Order”.
Article VI: Amendment
Section 1:
These by-laws shall be
amended by a vote of 2/3 majority of the membership at any regular
meeting.
Section 2:
Provision for advance notice of
amendment shall be as follows:
A.
All notifications must be completed two (2) full weeks prior to
scheduled vote.
B.
All current members shall be notified of the time and place of
the intended vote.
C.
A copy of the exact text to be voted upon must be made available
in both an electronic and printed format easily accessible by the
membership.
