TEXT: Elementary Statistics, by Mario Triola; 11th Edition.
CALCULATOR: (Required) TI83 or TI84.
COURSE GOALS: To be able to describe, explore and compare data including measures of center, variation and relative standing. To be proficient in solving basic probability problems. To become acquainted with Random Variables, Binomial Distributions, Normal Distributions, Estimating Parameters and Sample Sizes, Hypothesis Testing and Linear Regression.
GRADING: You will be graded on exams, quizzes and a final.
4 Exams 400 points (50%) Scale: 90-100 A *
Quizzes 200 points (25%) 80-89 B *
Final Exam 200 points (25%) 70-79 C
800 points total 60-69 D, 0-59 F
QUIZZES: You will be given approximately 12 quizzes. The lowest two quizzes will
be dropped. THERE ARE NO MAKEUP QUIZZES. Quizzes may be
given on the previous night’s homework after homework questions have
been answered or as a take-home quiz.
HOMEWORK: All problems up to beyond the basics are assigned from each section.
It is extremely important that you do these assignments as your test and
quiz problems will be similar. Homework will not be collected.
EXAMS: Four exams will be given. Anyone with special needs (disability, medical
problems, etc.) must discuss this privately with the teacher. If you have to
schedule a test before the test date;
let me know as soon as possible! Tests
taken
after
the scheduled date will be graded without partial credit.
FINAL: A comprehensive final will be given. The final will count 25% of your grade.
If you fail the final exam, the maximum course grade possible is a C.
WITHDRAWLS: The last day to drop a class is November 4th.
