This Webquest was developed for a class in grades 2-5.  The lessons can be adapted to change the level of diffuculty.  This was designed to be used inside the classroom for lower grades, but higher grades should be able to use this as an independent assignment.   It was also designed for students that have at least read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.  It can also be used for classes that have seen at least the first Harry Potter movie, and have explored the basic concept of Harry Potter's wizarding world.  See below for Standards and Resources.

Standards

This lesson meets several Indiana Standards in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Some of these Standards include the following:

    Writing:

3.5.7 Write responses to literature that:
• demonstrate an understanding of what is read.
• support statements with evidence from the text.

They develop and use the formulas for calculating perimeters and areas of rectangles. They compare the concepts of volume and capacity. They add time intervals and calculate the amount of change from a purchase.

3.2.1 Add and subtract whole numbers up to 1,000 with or without regrouping, using relevant properties of the number system.
Example: 854 – 427 = ?. Explain your method.
