Buenos Aires for the last time

We spent the last four days in Buenos Aires (this was our 5th trip to BA). We stayed at this cute B&B. This the outside.

Like many houses in Argentina, the custom is to have open spaces and gardens inside surrounding walls (compared to the US where the gardens are on the outside of the house).

This is a milonga in the Confiteria Ideal in Buenos Aires. A milonga is a tango dance (as opposed to a tango show for tourists). Most start late (11:30 or so) and go to 3 or 4 am. The Confiteria often has two milongas, this one was during the day from 3pm to about 10 (it was almost over so there weren't many people when we took the picture); the evening milonga started around 11:30 and went to 3:00am. Over the year we went to milongas in10 different locations in BA (there are around 30); depending on the night you may have as many as a dozen or so places to choose from and most days you can dance an early milonga (3-10pm) go to eat and then dance 11pm-4am. We also went to milongas in half a dozen other places in other cities (we were regulars at the dance in Tandil which went from 11:30pm to 4am). The Confiteria is probably the nicest dance hall of the ones we saw.

Here is a link to a milonga in Salon Canning, another place we went a couple of times. We were actually there the same week this YouTube video was taken (I don THINK we are in the video ...):  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoACXoDIx-E

This is Cafe Tortoni, one of the older (and classier) cafes in BA. Very cool place.

One last look at the Madres de la Plaza del Mayo. The Madres are in the white head scarves. The sign says "Distribution of the wealth now." (Now a days they support other causes in addition to the disparacidos of the dirty war.)

That's all folks!
