We met our friends Fred and Judy in Buenos Aires the first week in Feb. for four days before they went on to Barriloche.
We came into BA by bus. Here is a picture of the double-decker long distance busses all lining up at Retiro, the big Buenos Aires bus station. There are hundreds of companies, you can go just about anywhere by bus in Argentina pretty cheaply.
For this trip we decided to take the executive class overnight bus to BA from Mendoza. The seats lay down completely flat, they serve a hot meal, free wine, champagne, there is a bathroom on board and you get to watch two movies while someone else drives. Can't ask for much else.
The second day we went out to an estancia, listened to traditional music and had an asado (barbeque). This was the musical group, we bought a CD.
You can stay the night here. I think Fred and Judy are thinking about staying longer ....
Although it may look like I want to dance, I'm not really having any fun at all. Seriously.
Are we having fun yet?
The gauchos had a tradition of trying to spear a tiny ring with a little stick while at full gallop. Sounded kind of dumb until we learned that the prize was you got to pick a girl to marry if you could skewer the ring.
Hmmm. Pampas grass. We must be in the Pampas!
We went to the usual tourist spots in BA, including the Pacifico shopping mall down in the micro center. Hey, who took that picture, anyway?
This is from La Boca. Peron, Evita and Maridona are on the balcony.
We had lunch down in the trendy Puerto Madero section of town. The remodeled the old port and put in a ton of restaurants and bars.
