James Freeman's Childhood Memento Page.

IU seal, red on white, small Abstract

My childhood memento story is about my Snoopy fishing pole.  This fishing pole is very important to my development from childhood to adulthood.  The Snoopy fishing pole was a gift from my father, who took me fishing with him many times during the springs and summers of my youth.  During this time fishing with my father, he instilled in me the philosophy of "if you work hard, you get to play hard."  Looking back on the times fishing with my father with my Snoopy fishing pole, I am reminded to always work hard, so that I can enjoy more of my leisure time.

Orientation

Who, What, When, and Where?

My childhood memento story is based on my experiences fishing using a Snoopy fishing pole with my father when I was young.  While I do not have any specific outing with my father that is related to this story, I associate my experiences fishing with him and the pole to his recurring statement of if you work hard, you get to play hard.  My father wand I would, and still do, go to my uncle Bill's lake near Brownstown, Indiana, and fish many weekends of the spring and summer.  My memories of these experiences with my father occurred throughout my childhood, helping me transition into adulthood with a strong work ethic.

Complication and Evaluation

Due to my experiences from fishing using my Snoopy fishing pole with my father, and his statements of if you work hard, you get to play hard, I developed trough adolescence knowing that I needed to always give my best when it came to school and anything I did.  This positive self-concept that I developed helped me throughout high school and drove me to succeed in college.

Result

Due to my father's instilment of working hard, I now have a career that I enjoy and is rewarding.

In all, the memories of my Snoopy fishing pole remind me of the type of character my father was imparting on me that he new would eventually create a positive self-image and assurance that are necessary for successful adulthood
