Sweet Childhood Memories

For my childhood memento, I used a picture of my sister and myself at my maternal grandmother's house that was thirty minutes away in Columbia, S.C. My grandmother has helped to instill the values of family, togetherness, and religion into our family.
She made the common things of life like riding the city bus which we were not accustomed too seem so special. My sister and I can remember this amazing summer that we had because we stayed the summer with our grandmother. She made the ordinary seem extraordinary. We went to Vacation Bible School, shopping, and was introduced to our first allowance. All of these things were common and had been done before, but special because it was done with our grandmother who made us feel like we were on top of the world.
My grandmother continued to make us feel that we were special and loved even up to the point where she lost the battle with breast cancer my junior year of undergrad. Before her death, with illness and pain, she made the three hour trip to Salisbury, N.C. where I would be attending college just to help me move in and spend time with me. Why? The answer is all in the name of love, family, and togetherness. She made sure that we knew that God and family are all that we have.
