HOMETOWN:
Hello, my name is Ken Harris and I am originally from Memphis, TN.
I was born and raised in Memphis, and thus hold a special place in my
heart for the blues and BBQ. I'm also a mega-sports-fan, so I do
my best to cheer for the Tennessee Volunteers, Memphis Redbirds (the
Cardinals AAA affiliate), and the Memphis Grizzlies......in addition to
UVA and FSU, the two Universities that I attended.
EDUCATION:
I was born and raised in Memphis until I entered the University of Virginia (UVA) in
1994. I received my undergraduate degree from UVA in accounting in
1998, and went on to receive my master's at UVA in 1999. While
pursuing my master's at UVA, I got the chance to teach a couple of
introductory accounting classes.......and that's the first time I got
bit by the teaching bug. After working for a few years, I decided
to get my PhD. This time I went for the warmer climate of Florida,
as I entered the Management PhD program at Florida State University (FSU).
I studied there for three years and graduated with the PhD in 2004.
ACCOUNTING WORK EXPERIENCE:
After graduating in 1999, I went to work for the accounting firm
Deloitte & Touche, where I was an accounting consultant. I had the
opportunity to work with a number of interesting clients and travel
throughout the world. Some particular highlights included jobs in
Richmond, VA, and four months in Saudi Arabia.
ACADEMIC (TEACHING) WORK EXPERIENCE:
(1) 1998 -1999. As a master's student at UVA, I taught
classes in managerial and financial accounting.
(2) 2001 - 2004. As a doctoral student at FSU, I taught
classes in organizational behavior and cross-cultural management.
(3) 2004 - 2005.
After graduating from FSU in 2004, I took a job as an assistant
professor of Management at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. At
Bradley I taught Human Resource Management, Advanced Human Resource
Management, and Principles of Management.
(4) 2005 - Present. I
stayed at Bradley for a year before joining the faculty at IUS in the
fall of 2005. At IUS I have (will have) taught classes in
Entrepreneurship, Principles of Management, and Organizational Change
and Development.
