The Alphanumeric Keyboard looks similar to a typewriter's keyboard.This arrangement is referred to as the QUERTY Keyboard.This board was set this way to slow typist down and top the manual keys from jamming.Even though it has been years since manual typewriters the arrangement has not changed due to the fact that people have learned how to use this arraignment and do not wish to switch.
 

ESC is the escape key and sometimes will closes command palettes or windows.

 

Tilde key - ~ used on the internet in web addresses

 

Tab Key – used to move the insertion point from field to field on the internet or indent in the word processor.

 

Caps Lock key allows the computer to type in all caps.You still have to use the shift key to get the symbols on the tops of the keys.

 

Shift key is to get upper case letters or the letter or symbol on top of a key.

 

Alternative or Alt key will activate the menu bar.
 
 

Control (Ctrl) or Alternative (Alt) keys when used with other keys will give make short cut.
 
 

Ctrl + Alt keys are pressed down and then the Delete key is pressed it will bring up a menu that can release your computer when it is frozen.
 
 

Window Key the only keyboard key that operates the start button on the task bar.
 
 

Enter key is critically difference than a typewriter.You do not need to press enter at the end of a line.Or margin.The test will automatically wrap to the next line in most programs.When Enter is pressed in the word processor it starts a new paragraph.But in most programs and windows or dialog boxes enter will exert the command that is highlighted.
 
 

Backspace ordeletes going back one space at a time.
 
 

Delete Key deletes going forward one space at a time.Insert key is used when the type over option is turned on.
 
 

The arrow keys will allow you to move through the document you are editing.
 
 

Page up and page down will take you up and down one screen.
 
 

Home takes the insertion point to the beginning of the line.End takes the insertion point to the end of the line.

Num Lock on the number pad turns on the numeric keypad.

Print Screen button will not send a copy to the printer, but will copy what is on the screen to a program called clip board.You can then paste it in any word-processingprogram.

The Function Keys across the top can perform different task or functions with each program.These as sort of short cut command keys.F1 key is usually Help.
