TAKE ME HOME

 

 

Description: 

You will take at least 10 snapshots using a 35mm camera and record the camera setting data into a Microsoft Excel document.  The needed data needed is as follows:

 

 

35 mm Camera Used

 

Picture Number Using Exposure Counter

 

Shutter Speed Setting

 

Aperture Setting or F-Stop

 

Focal Length or the distance of a focus from the surface of a lens or curved mirror

 

 

Flash/No Flash

 

Weather Condition, Temperature

 

Taken Indoor/Outdoor

 

Outcome

 

  

Steps of Lesson:

 

Step 1: 

Pair-up with a partner for this lesson. 

Step 2:

Choose a 35mm camera.

 

 

 

Step 3:

Take 10 snapshots & record the above data.

 

 

Step 4:

Your partner will take 10 snapshots & record the above data.

Step 5:

Use the remaining film left by taking random snapshots.  You & your partner will not be responsible for recording the camera setting data for these snapshots.

Step 6:

Rewind the film.

Step 7:

Take the rewound film from the camera.

Step 8:

Develop your roll of film.

Step 9:

Develop your black & white pictures using the same exposure times for every picture.

Step 10:

Analyze the finished product and record all of the necessary data into one Microsoft Excel document.  There is an example Microsoft Excel document for you to view.  You can use this example as a template for recording all of the needed data, if you like.

 

 

Follow-Up Questions:

  1. What can you determine from your recorded data?
  2. Was there a noticeable difference in the different cameras used?
  3. What does the shutter speed setting mean?
  4. Did the different aperture settings make a difference in your pictures?
  5. What have you leaned about the focal length?
  6. Did you manually use the flash or set it to automatic?
  7. Did the weather seem to matter while completing this lesson?
  8. Do you prefer to take indoor or outdoor pictures?
  9. Were you satisfied with the outcome of all of your pictures?  why/why not?
