IUS-SNA Committees

Executive Committees

Breakthrough to Nursing- Brenda Hackett

These members are responsible for increasing the diversity and number of persons choosing nursing as a career. Reaching out to minorities and young children to draw their interest does this, as well as attending school fairs and orientation sessions at IUS.

Membership- Coyla Short

These members are responsible for pursuing new members, including those already in the program as well as pre-nursing students. They communicate with other organizations about campus activities and try to inform our organization of a way we could be involved.

Education- Kathleen Walsh Free

Members are in charge of finding out the needs and interests of their fellow students. They in turn look for ways to meet these needs. Some examples would be to find guest speakers, local workshops, campus activities or support.

Legislative- Janice McMahan

These members are responsible for keeping the local chapter informed of legislation issues pertaining to nursing and especially students. They are responsible for updating bylaws yearly. They may also be responsible for drafting and submitting resolutions to the House of Delegates at national convention.

Social Support- Jacqueline Reed

These members are responsible for planning and coordinating social activities for the chapter. They are to support their fellow classmates and help communicate activities within the organization. Examples of activities include a family picnic, holiday bash, and other fun activities. These activities should still portray a professional organization.

Community Health- Judy Myers

These members have the opportunity to improve health awareness in the local community to see the professional role of nursing at IUS. Activities include Health Screenings (ex. blood pressure checks) at different locations in the community.

Fundraising- Donna Bowles

These members are responsible for organizing events that will help our organization to raise funds for ourselves and for numerous activities that students are able to be a part of.

Image of Nursing- Mimi McKay

These members are responsible for notifying any agency of their wrong portrayal of nursing. They would be cautious of TV programs in which nurses were wrongly portrayed. They would pursue any wrong nursing that any member could prove and bring it to their attention. They are responsible for allowing the public to know the true side of nursing, not the media's view.
