Unit Information

IU Southeast students may share activities and plan
with other IU Southeast students whose children are studying the same topic.
The lesson plans and units must clearly identify all involved IU Southeast
students. All final units must be word processed and include the following.
1. A cover page that is attractive and includes the:
IU Southeast students' names; title of the unit; date of submission; Galena
teacher's name; and Language Arts/Reading Methods.
2. Clearly stated goals on the following topics:
(a) reading comprehension;
(b) reading/writing appreciation;
(c) writing process;
(d) technology;
(e) study skills;
(f) life skill;
(g) book/theme;
(h) any other area that seems appropriate.
(Cross-reference these with the
state standards for Language Arts.)
3. The Directed Reading Activity/Guided Reading lesson
you taught.
4. Three published activities (from sources other
than the required texts) from each team member. Each member must submit
one activity on the writing process and one on the designated area of comprehension.
The third activity may relate to any appropriate concept/skill. Identify
who contributed each activity. (Bring reference books to class and share
the sources.) All activities must include:
(a) title;
(b) specific skill area (e.g. evaluation, inference, drawing conclusions;
editing-- NOT comprehension, writing, etc.);
(c) state standard being addressed;
(d) domain (psychomotor, cognitive, affective);
(e) succinct description of activity;
(f) reference (APA format) e.g. Smith (1998).
5. Paragraphs on:
(a) the writing process;
(b) Language Experience Approach;
(c) poetry;
(d) study skill;
(e) self-selected additional reading strategy;
(f) life skill;
(g) technology.
6. Summary paragraphs that describe what the children
learned/didn't learn, changes you would make, and what each team member
learned. Identify the team member who wrote each paragraph.
7. A web (produced on HyperStudio, Inspiration, or
other computer program) that shows integration of topic/subject areas/requirements.
8. A rubric developed by the I.U.S. student(s) and
used for assessment purposes.
9. Reference page listing all materials used. Use
APA format.
10. Appendix that includes HyperStudio projects.
(You may run four cards to a page.)
The body of the unit should be no longer that twelve
pages, excluding title page and reference page.
First Due Date:
(a) copy of unit;
(b) paper copy of computer stories;
(c) self-rated Criteria Sheet for the Word Processed Unit. This submission
will determine your grade.
Second Due Date:
IUS
(a) 1 copy of revised unit with stories;
(b) graded unit (from first submission);
(c) Criteria Sheet (from first submission)
Galena
(a) 1 revised unit
(b) completed rubrics
(c) HyperStudio projects on disks or placed on the school's hard drives.
