Professor for a Day

The Professor for a Day program is a special event during which area school children from technologically superior school come to the campus of Indiana University Southeast and teach computer software programs to the elementary education students. The "professors" are fifth grade children who come prepared to teach a simple drawing/text program and multimedia program. The elementary education students are then required to use the multi-media program in their up-coming practicum in Reading/Language Arts Methods. The children bring their laptops from their school so that the program can have a one-to-one ratio; one elementary students assigned to one college student. The "professors" spend time talking with their assigned students about the likes/dislikes regarding school and school assignments, favorite books, etc. The "professors" are also taken to the computer lab(s) on campus and get a campus tour.

The children are greeted by the Dean of Education and all children are addressed as "Professor Jones/Brown/etc." and wear a similar name tag. At the end of the day they receive a certificate from the university with their professorial name written on it.

*We heard about other institutions that had tried something similar and decided to try this at IU Southeast. Readers of this page may feel free to come up with a similar program.
