Zdravstvujte,  I am Oksana Brudner (originally from Belarus). I teach ESL (English as a Second Language) at Goldsmith Elementary in Louisville, Kentucky.

The book I have chosen for my self-created curriculum inquiries utilizes The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle as the basis for extended instruction incorporating multiple intelligences methods.

Why did I choose the author Eric Carle and this particular book? In my opinion, all books written by this author are great sources for teaching many skills not just for the English language learners but for any primary students. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is an exciting learning experience for a child. It is full of content concepts, it has a good language structure that the students of limited English proficiency need to learn, and the repetitive pattern of the book stimulates them to start using these patterns without any hesitation. When using this book with the students, it is fun to see the excitement in their eyes. This is very important for me, because I believe that is when learning takes place.
