MathXL is an interactive website where you will be able to:

* Take practice quizzes (sample tests) and do exercises to improve your math skills

* Monitor your progress with a personal Study Plan created from the results of your quizzes

* Complete online homework assignments and tests that may be required for this course

 

What you need to get started:

* A computer running Windows 95 or higher                                     * An Internet Connection

* Internet Explorer for courses using the MathXL Player                * Your Student Access Code  

* Your MathXL Course Name                                                            * A valid email address

How do I register for MathXL and start working on assignments?

 

If you have used “MathXL” in another class within the last 12 months, then go to step 5 (you do not need a new access code).  If you used “Mymathlab/CourseCompass”, you must start with step 1

 

 


1)                  Go to www.mathxl.com & click the Register button. 

 

2)                  You will see the license agreement page.  Follow these steps to Register:

 

·         Accept the license agreement (orange button at bottom of page)

·         If you have previously used MyMathLab or Math XL then select “Yes, Look me up”;  otherwise keep “No, I am a new user” selected.

·         Example of an Access Code: SIMPLE-FRILL-TONLE-WEIRS-CHOIR-FLEESEnter the Student Access Code that came with a new textbook (or purchased separately if a used textbook was purchased)      

·         Our School Zip Code is:  47150                    

 

3)                  Next enter your account information, including:

·         a valid email address  

·         School name:  Indiana University Southeast

 

4)                  Next create your own access information:

·        Create a login name (you may have to try again if anyone across the country is already using what you type in)

·         Create a password and type it in twice.  

·         Your LOGIN is: ___________________________________

·          Your PASSWORD is: ______________________________

·         Answer one of the security questions so there is a way to retrieve a forgotten password

·          Click Submit.  (You will receive an email confirming your login name and password.)

 

5)                  Return to www.mathxl.com:

·         Enter your login name and password.

·         Click the Log In button.

·         Click the Enter MathXL button.

 

6)                  Now you need to Enroll in your MathXL Course:

If you used MathXL for a course last semester, go to Change Course/Book.

 

·         School:                        Indiana University Southeast

·         Instructor/Course:       _____________________________________________

                 

·         Make sure the picture of the textbook is correct and click Submit.

 

7)                  The Installation Wizard will now appear on the screen. 

Skip the installation if using a computer on campus.  It has already been installed here.

·          Make sure you install the MathXL Player from screen 3 (and any other plug-ins you may need).

·         Close all your open browser windows and then restart your Internet browser.

·         Log back into MathXL at www.mathxl.com. You are now ready to begin!

 

Remember, you must install the required plug-ins from the Installation Wizard on every

off campus computer where you plan to work in MathXL. If you need help, call Product Support at 1-800-677-6337.

 

A Basic User Guide to Doing Homework on MathXL

 

To do a homework assignment:

 

1.         Click on Do Homework

 

2.         Choose the Homework Assignment you want to work on

 

3.         Choose Exercise 1   (or any number)

               

            Note:  putting curser over an exercise shows which problem it corresponds to in the book. 

 

4.         Complete the problem and enter answer. Click on Check Answer

               

            Note:  You may have to use the math symbol palette on the left of the problem to type in your answer.

 

5.         If answer is correct, a green arrow will appear next to the number along the top of the screen.  Now click Similar Exercise to do another one like it OR click Next Exercise  to move to the next problem

               

            Note:  Or you may choose from the list of problem numbers on the top by clicking on the number.

 

6.         If the answer is incorrect, you have two more tries to get it right.  If you get it wrong on the third try a red X will appear next to the number along the top of the screen.  At this point, you may click Similar Exercise to try to get the question right or click Next Exercise to move to the next problem.

               

            Note:  If you rework the problem and get it correct, a green check will appear by the number.

 

6.         If you are not sure how to work a problem, click Help Me Solve This or View an Example for tutorial assistance with the problem.  Ask my Instructor, Textbook Pages and Print options are also available.

 

7.         When you have completed the last exercise (Next will no longer be an option) or you need to stop for the session, click Submit Homework.  You may continue to work on the homework and submit it multiple times up to the due date.  Only the highest grade counts.

 

            Note:  If you don’t click Submit Homework, you will receive no points for that assignment.

 

8.         To see all your homework scores, Click on Results and choose Homework. 

 

Click on Calendar  to see when homework assignments begin and end
