M119 Project 6 – Definite Integration on the Graphing
Calculator
Due: 10 points
Objective: Use technology to approximate definite
integrals
Information on using the numeric integration – MATH
9:fnInt(“function”,x,Start,Stop)
Example:
Find: ![]()
Enter the function into Y1 ![]()
Method I
- on the graph menu
Graph y1 on an appropriate viewing window – in this case
[0,10] for x and [0,25] for y
To find the definite integral use 2nd Trace
(i.e. CALC) and choose 7:![]()
In response to Lower Limit? type 1 and hit ENTER
In response to Upper Limit? type 9 and hit ENTER (note: 1 and 9 are the limits for this problem)
The area should shade and indicate a value of
approximately 109.333
Method II
- on the home screen
MATH 9: fnInt(
Y1, X, 1 ,9) will give the 109.333
Note: You could
enter
instead of Y1 - like -
MATH 9: fnInt
, X, 1 ,9)
PROJECT
Evaluate the following with
your calculator. Record answers to three
decimal places.
1.
2. ![]()
3.
4. ![]()
5. Show
work, using calculus to evaluate, then check with the
calculator: ![]()
