        &= nbsp; At a convention of 350 butchers (B), bakers (A), and candlestick makers (C), t= here were 50 who were both B and A but not C, 70 who were B but neither A nor C,= 60 who were A but neither B nor C, 40 who were both A and C but not B, 50 who = were both B and C but not A, 80 who were C but neither A nor B.  How many at the convention were A,= B, and C?

IN CLASS – Multiple Majo= rs

        &= nbsp; A survey was taken of 150 college freshmen.&= nbsp; Forty of them were majoring in Mathematics, 30 of them were majoring= in English, 20 were majoring in Science, 7 had a double major of Math and Engl= ish, and none had a double (or triple) major with Science.  How many students had majors other= than Math, English, or Science?

 

IN CLASS - TV Viewing

        &= nbsp; A class survey found that 25 students watched TV on Monday, 20 on Tuesday, an= d 16 on Wednesday.  Of those who wa= tched TV on only one of these days, 11 chose Monday, 7 chose Tuesday, and 6 chose Wednesday.  If every student w= atches TV on at least 1 of these days and 7 students watched on all 3 days.  If 12 students watched TV on both = Monday and Tuesday, find the number of students in the class.

        &= nbsp; A survey was taken of students at the university concerning their enrollment = in liberal arts courses.  Each of= 600 students was asked to answer yes or no to each of the questions:=

        &= nbsp; Are you enrolled in a natural science course?

        &= nbsp; Are you enrolled in a social science course?

So = far the following data from the survey have been tabulated.

        &= nbsp; 100 are enrolled both in a humanities course and a social science course

        &= nbsp; 130 are enrolled in a natural science course but not in a humanities course

        &= nbsp; 120 are enrolled only in a social science course

        &= nbsp;  30 are enrolled in all three course= areas

        &= nbsp; 270 are enrolled in a social science course

        &= nbsp; 300 are enrolled in only one of the three areas

The= dean of liberal arts is interested in know the answers to the questions.=

IN CLASS -=   Flawed Data

A s= ociologist surveyed 100 college students and came up with these data:

        &= nbsp; 72 own cars

        &= nbsp; 60 own stereos

        &= nbsp; 20 own both items.

On = seeing these results, another sociologist claimed that the doing the survey was either a fraud or incompetent (or both).  Is this correct?  Why?=
