IN CLASS – Junior Prom

          There are 120 juniors in the current class.  Of those, 66 are going to the junior prom.  The same number (66) of juniors are going out to dinner that evening, including 48 of those going to the prom.  How many juniors are neither going to the prom nor going out to dinner?

 

IN CLASS – Frat Classes

          In a fraternity with 30 members, 18 take mathematics, 5 take both mathematics and biology, and 8 take neither mathematics nor biology.  How many take biology, but not mathematics. 

 

 

In CLASS - Math Classes

          Thirty elementary teachers were asked which high school courses they appreciated:  algebra or geometry.  Seventeen appreciated algebra and 15 appreciated geometry; of these. 5 said that they appreciated both.  How many appreciated neither.

 

 

In Class - Thirsty?

Lemonmobiles are available with two possible options:  radio and air conditioning.  The owner of the Lemonmobile Emporium is studying a recent inventory of his lot, which shows

          50 Lemonmobiles on hand in all

          25 Lemonmobiles have radios

          13 have both options, radios and air conditioning

          15 have neither option

How many of the Lemonmobiles on hand have air conditioning?  How many of the Lemonmobiles on hand have radios but no air conditioning?

 


POD – - Musicians

In a music club with 15 members, 7 people played piano, 6 people played guitar, and 4 people didn’t play either of these two instruments.  How many people played both piano and guitar?

Clocks

Calvin’s Clock Company makes clocks.  Each cold that the company makes is either chiming or nonchiming and either digital or nondigital.  His clocks in stock have the following information:

          14 are chiming

          33 are digital

          8 are chiming and digital

          46 are neither chiming nor digital.

How many clocks are chiming but not digital?

How many clocks are nonchiming and also digital?

How many clocks have at least one of these two features:  chiming and digital?

How many clocks does Calving have in stock all together?

 

Book Sale

A PTA sold books at a fair.  Each book sold was either fiction or nonfiction and was either a hardback or a paperback.  Hardback books of fiction bring in the most money.  The committee chair can’t remember exactly how many of these were sold, but he does remember that 30 books were sold in all.  20 hardcover books were sold.  15 books of fiction were sold.  What is the smallest possible number of hardback books of fiction sold?  What is the largest possible number of hardback books of fiction sold?
