Data due: Wed 9/22 or Tues. 9/21 Value: 25 pts[5 point penalty for each class late]
Objective: Experience with gathering and presenting data, i.e. descriptive statistics.
Use the web pages to find Birth Announcements.
Gather information on the birth weight of at least 110 new borns.
The location for Clark Memorial is http://www.clarkmemorial.org/births.asp
and Baptist East is http://www.baptisteast.com/babynet/
Print a copy of your data. Weight at birth will be in pounds
and ounces. These should all be converted to ounces.
Example: 6 lb.. 8 oz.
= 6 X 16 + 8 = 104 oz.. and 8 lb.. 4 1/2 oz. = 8 X 16 + 4.5
= 132.5 oz.
When reporting the results requested, first give in ounces, then convert to pounds an ounces.
Example: 118.6 oz =
118.6 / 16 = 7.4125 which is 7 lb. and .4125 X 16 = 6.6 oz or 7 lb 6.6
oz.
and 128.75
oz =128.75/16=8.046875 - 8 =.046875 X 16 = .75 or 8 lb..
3/4 oz.
