http Teacher Web Page

Another great tool for today's educators is the Internet.  Designing a teacher web page is a great way to extend your teaching beyond the four walls of your classroom.  Not only that, a teacher web page is a great communication tool for your students and their families.

You will create a web page focusing on the grade level or subject area you hope to teach.  The web page is intended to be a portal of information for students, their families, and community members.  This assignment takes a lot of planning, so students are encouraged to begin immediately.  The web page will be an important launching point for several other assignments in this course.  Therefore, students should begin soon and work diligently to ensure its proper creation.

Students have some flexibility in how they create this page. We have two programs on the IUS computers that can be used - Dreamweaver and Publisher. In addition to these programs, there are a many online products that make designing and publishing a web page very simple. Google Sites and Weebly are two that I have had experience using, but I am sure that a simple search will reveal others.

For this assignment, it does not matter what program or tool you use to create the site. It is the content of the site that is of utmost importance.

Use the teacher web page rubric as a guide for this assignment and to ensure that it is submitted correctly for assessment purposes.
Below are links to examples of sites I have built. These are not a template for you to simply copy, but a way to spark your own thinking.

If you plan on using Dreamweaver or Publisher, you must create your teacher web page, you must have a Mercury/Mypage account.  Visit the resources page to find out more.
