K. Thomas Elzy is a freelance writer/illustrator based in Louisville, KY. He is currently earning a BA in English from Indiana University Southeast. After graduation, he plans to pursue an MA in Film and Video studies from Columbia College in Chicago, IL.

For more than six years, he has studied many writing forms, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, research writing, journalism, and screenwriting, among others. In 2004, he published two poems and a short fiction piece in the IUS Literary Review, which honors student work in the areas of writing, fine art, and photography. (He is now an assistant editor of that publication.)

In 2005, he published an article in the Spring issue of the Angelo, a local publication showcasing and promoting Kentuckiana artists and artwork. That same year, he entered the IUS Writing Contest, and received five writing awards for exceptional entries in the Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Parody categories. In 2006, his short nonfiction piece "A Firefly in October" was awarded First Place in Creative Nonfiction in the Metroversity Writing Competition, a prestigious contest open to all writing students of surrounding universities.

K. Thomas Elzy possesses a background in fine arts and illustration, as well. He has studied drawing, painting, and graphic design for the past 15 years; and has exhibited his work in the Ronald L. Barr Art Gallery on campus. In 2005, he exhibited a piece in the Kentucky State Fair, and received 5th place in the Drawing category.

He is currently writing and illustrating his first graphic novel, which will be available in 2007. In addition, he is finishing work on a collaborative project with another writer, and plans to pen a full-length screenplay in the summer.

His long-term goal: to write and direct his own feature films. He believes very strongly in the medium: its capacity to communicate stories and ideas using more than just words. Beauty is captured through moving pictures and sound, a reflection of the real world which engages the senses and the mind.
