S250-251 - Methods and Statistics This is a course sequence
that was added to the sociology curriculum in 1998. The sequence
replaces the old Methods of Social Science Research and the statistics
course both of which were required for a degree in sociology. The
faculty in sociology were concerned that the courses, when taught separately,
did not give the student the exposure to the link between methods and statistics.
This course seeks to remedy that situation.
The student is expected to take both parts of the
sequence in order. In other words, you should sign up for S250 in
the fall and S251 in the spring. They are taught at the same time
and 251 continues where 250 ended. Dr. Sloss and I alternate teaching
the course. I am teaching it in the fall of 1999 and spring of 2000
and will probably teach it again in the fall of 2001 and spring of 2002.
The syllabus for the course will, of course, change from instructor to
instructor and from year to year.
