The Faculty Senate created the Integrated Technology Committee (ITC) in the 1996-1997 academic year. It replaces two previous Faculty Senate committees: the Academic Computer Usage Committee and the Audio Visual Committee. It works with the Student Technology Fee Advisory group (which is an administrative committee) and the Campus IT Advisory Group.
The Integrated Technology Committee shall consist of the Vice-Chancellor of Integrated Technology and an elected representative from the library and each of the academic schools/divisions with elected senators. The Vice-Chancellor of Integrated Technology shall be an ex-officio member of the committee.
This committee shall be responsible for studying the technology requirements for teaching and research, for making recommendations regarding equipment and personnel needed to meet these requirements, and for recommending policies and procedures regarding the utilization of technology for teaching and research purposes.
IU Southeast ITC Software Request Form (Microsoft Word Document)
The ITC is authorized to fund requests for software (i.e., programs executable on computers and/or information in a form which permits access by such programs) to be used for academic purposes. In the past the committee has been able to fund most of the requests it has received.
Each year, every school and the library have been allocated an amount (usually $1500) to be spent on software as the dean of the respective school sees fit. The remaining money (after the funds spent by the respective schools has been subtracted) is used to fund requests submitted directly to the ITC committee. These submissions directly to the ITC should not be made until a requestor's unit (school or library) has spent all of their allocated funds. The committee, jointly, reviews all requests that are submitted to the committee once the school/library funds are exhausted. All requests for ITC money should be made using the ITC request form that is available from your ITC representative or via the ITC webpage. The same form is used if requesting software from your dean's discretionary funds or if requesting funding directly to the ITC.
The ITC will consider requests for software where the software is related to teaching and research activities. The requests must be for one-time purchases only and not for renewable or subscription software packages.
Requests for software that does not meet the ITC requirements may be eligible for funding through the Student Technology Fee. Such requests should be submitted through the school to the Student Technology Fee Advisory group. Student Technology Fee money supports all student computer labs and computer clusters. Requests for lab software to the Student Technology Fee Advisory group may be submitted using the same form that is used to submit software requests to the ITC.
To apply for funding:
Fill out the funding request form with the guidance of Cindy Hayes (x2287) on pricing and vendors. The form is available from your ITC representative or through the ITC webpage.
Submit the form first to your dean. If the dean still has funds, the request will be fulfilled at the dean's discretion. If the dean approves the request, the dean should forward the request to Cindy Hayes with his/her approval noted. Cindy will notify the requestor when the software package arrives.
If the school has spend its full allotment, have the dean return the form and then submit the form to your ITC representative with the explanation that your school's allocation has been spent. The full committee will review all such requests it receives. If the committee approves the request, the request will be forwarded to Cindy Hayes with the committee's approval. Cindy will notify the requestor when the software package arrives.
