Things change. From the Big Bang to the twenty-first century a lot has happened. From a social problems perspective, not much went on for the first several billion years. Our species is estimated to be only 200,000 years old.  We did learn to write until 5,000 years ago. Computers are only about 50 years old.

Change by definition means a disruption of the current state of affairs. When change occurs in social systems, social relationships change. Inevitably, someone (or group) will view this as a social problem. As such we will look at major changes in human behavior. Specifically, we are going to review two level of change - biological & cultural.

Our biological review briefly compares humans with our closest relatives. Some like Chimpanzees and gorillas are still hanging on. Others like the Neanderthals are long extinct.

The second evolution is not about the evolution of genes but about the evolution of information and technology.  This is the evolution that brought you the Internet. The summary relies heavily on the work of Gerhard and Jean Lenski.
