Childhood Memento
I do not know when my mom and dad got me the book My Icky Picky Sister. I only remember that I always had it and it was my favorite book. I memorized that book and to this day I can recite the first four pages to you.
When I got older, I would read the book to my baby brother. He to can still recite the first few pages of the text. It created something special between my brother and I and to this day, me being 24 and him almost 20, we'll start chiming, "She rolled her eyes, she crossed her arms, she said she did not like it."
I think I liked it mostly because of repetition of the text. Every other page has the same text, "She rolled her eyes, she crossed her arms, she said she did not like it." I also think I liked it so much because I have two older sisters, and I did think that they were icky and picky!
This memento is important to me because it set a good foundation for reading, and it gave my brother and I a common bond that we still have to this day.
