Little Soldier
My
childhood memento is a porcelain statue of a young boy in a soldier’s
uniform. My grandmother collected
several of these and I remember seeing these all over her house when I was a
young boy. I was never allowed to play
with them because I had a habit of breaking things. She gave me one for my 12th birthday and I kept it on my shelf
surrounded by all of my sport’s trophies from little league baseball. I consider it a memento because it reminds
me of all the times I spent in my grandmother’s house. It also reminds me of the first one of these
I broke, it was similar to mine. I
knocked it over and one of the arms broke off. Mostly it reminds me of the times I spent with my grandmother
who passed away when I was 15 years old.
I have more appreciation for it now than when I was a child.
