Notes: He settled near Cobb, KY in southern Caldwell Co., near Trigg County.
The marriage of a John BAKER to Susanna is recorded in Greene County where he was known to reside prior to moving to Christian and Caldwell Counties in KY. Family histories recorded in Caldwell County, Kentucky History (1987) indicate that his wife's name was "Susan" but land transactions clearly list her name as Susannah. Since they had Samuel the following year after their marriage, Susanna Lambkin probably was his wife. Our research of Fauquier and Westmoreland Counties in VA shows several Lambkins in those counties.
Samuel BAKER and George KESTERSON provided security for his marriage.
John BAKER is listed often in the court orders of Christian County. In 1805 and 1807, he was paid for 2 young wolf scalps. In 1806 and 1809, he was issued certificates for 400 land. In 1806, he was ordered to appraise the estate of Etheired Scoggins. He and George Kesterson served as patrollers (1811). John BAKER served on a jury in 1812, and he was a Justice of the Peace in 1807.
By 1816, John BAKER had accumulated over 1000 acres along the Muddy Fork of the Little River.

Dear Bill Olivia; I was sorry to have missed you--But am home now, and Hope you can come back. I've been feeling very poorly for the past few days, but little better this AM. Bill I am sending a little record (The beginning of Amaziah). Now this is a true record. Aunt Nancy and the 2 negro slaves told me this. At the time Aunt Nancy also the 2 slaves were very old. I was in my early teens. I am now 88 years wil be 89 in Dec so this goes far back toward the 200 mark and I know it's a true record of how Amaziah came to be. I must say bye. Auntie Bess
My great grandfather and yours, Boatner, came from South Carolina back in slave time (he was a slave owner). They traveled in wagons as in those days that was their only way of transportation. There was no road for the travel so the slaves cut and prepared the way for the wagons. When they reached what is now Amaziah, he chose to settle there. He built the Church. The foundation is logs hewn and cutted by his slaves (40' long). The nearest settlers was Cornersville. He built cabins in the valley at the foot of the hill behind the church for his Cornersville neighbors to attend the meetings. His slaves doing cooking for them. He had a daughter who lived to be very old, Aunt Nancy (Boatner) Baker. I was in my early teens, but I enjoyed her telling us about all this, and they were very afraid of the Indians being in that part of the county at that time (the time of their settlement). I also knew 2 of my grandfather's slaves (Aunt Violet and Uncle Mercily). Grandfather gave 3 acres for the church & 3 for the semitary. His slaves were to have space in one part for burial place. My great grandfather also had a daughter. Her name was Rachel (Boatner) McCauley. She had 3 sons that I remember--Jeff, George & Billy. Billy married my mother (Eliza Laws). They had 3 children, Alice, Jimmy and Robert. He passed away--My mother then married a cousin of Billy's, George Albert Boatner. My father-you & I had the same Great grandfather. Aunt Rachel Boatner McCauley was your great grandmother. Maybe when you come again, I will be home. Love Bessie.
Bessie Boatner Pickens had a sister named Jewel and a brother named Harry. Note says written in the early 1970's.

Notes: Permelia married first Mr. Stocks and presented him with a stillborn child, Jonathan. After Stocks died, she married Robert Franklin Jameson. They had one son prior to the Civil War. When Robert came home on furlough from the war, a daughter resulted from this encounter. Jameson did not return home again, and it was assumed that he was dead. During this time, Permelia developed a liason with a neighbor named Barnett where she had worked as a housekeeper. She and Barnett married? and she had children by him as well. According to the records of Ila Toney, however, Jameson was taken prisoner, held at Vicksburg and was released on the last day of the war. He obviously may have discovered what happened and left the area in disgrace. It was intimated that the Jameson family developed a disdain for Permelia as a result of the Barnett union. On her deathbed, Permelia Baker intimated to a daughter that she might be a bigamist.
In the 1870 Census for Columbia Co., AR; Calhoun Twnsp; Wm Jamison 9 and Parmelia F. Jamison 7 are listed living with Parmelia and Wm Barnet. Parmelia is listed as being born in MS.
