PART A
Each member of your group will choose one of the following:

1) Biography of Roosevelt: Write about Teddy Roosevelt, his family history, his explorations, and his political career.  You may want to include his hobbies and interests, like big game hunting, conservation, or his contributions to the natural history museum.  This subject is very broad, so if you want to narrow your research down to a particular aspect of Roosevelt, such as his political history, that is fine.  Make sure I approve of your topic first!

 2) Geography of the Amazonian Basin:  Write about the natural history of the Amazon, how it was formed, the river systems, the bio-systems, etc.  What influences its climate?

3)Culture in the Amazon:  Research different indigenous tribes of the Amazon basin.  What is the culture and social organization of these people?  What languages do they speak?  What is their political organization?  How do they address law and conflict resolution?  What economic activities are they involved in?  What role does gender, religion, mythology, or symbolism play?  Address the effects that globalization, climate change, and deforestation may have on these people.

Now that you have chosen your topic, you should begin research as soon as possible.  I have listed some websites that you can use in your research.  Do not limit yourself to just these links.  Remember: Use scholarly journals, websites, or books!!!  If you have any questions about the validity of sources, just ask me.  Remember, you have plenty of time to complete your assignment.  Class time will be provided for individual and group work.
Watch for mechanics; they will be part of your evaluation.

PART B
When every member of your group is finished, you will need to decide what part of each of your research you want to present to the class.  You can do this using posters, power point, or handouts.  Be creative.  The more you make the presentation interesting for the class, the better your score will be.

PART C
You must turn in your journal entries after completing your research and presentations.  There must be a minimum of five journal entries, each one a minimum of two paragraphs.  Watch for grammar errors.  I understand this is a tool used as part of the creative process, but blatant mechanical errors will not be accepted.  It will be part of your evaluation score.
