The war in Iraq has been going on now for over four years.  What was supposed to be a short, simple endeavor has progressed into what some are calling a "quagmire", comparable to Vietnam.  The issue of Iraq has become a divisive issue in our country and has polarized politics more than ever.  In an effort to breach political barriers and come to some sort of compromise that could potentially save thousands of American soldiers and tens of thousands Iraqi civilians, our Current Events class has taken up the issue of Iraq.  What are some solutions to the conflict in Iraq?  We studied the history of the region with a brief survey of the Middle East before WWI up to current times.  We studied Iraq's economy as well as its religious and ethnic diversity.  America has invested so much time, money, effort, and lives into Iraq that it makes it next to impossible to easily walk away.  What, then, can we do?

The students had much to say on this subject.  After their own research on possible solutions, they came up with a few of their own ideas.  Here they are!!!

Kendra :  Separate the country into ethnic regions and establish a federalized government.

Jonathan: Stop de-Bathification because it alienated so many people who made up the infrastructure of the country.

Jamal:  Escalate US troops for a short period of time so peace can be made.

Habib: Remove US troops.  Let the Iraqis figure out their solution without Western influence.
